Preparing for a boudoir shoot can feel both exciting and a little nerve-wracking. A little planning goes a long way toward ensuring you feel confident, comfortable, and absolutely gorgeous during your session. As a boudoir photographer, I’ve helped many women discover how empowering boudoir photography can be. My top tips for preparing for a boudoir shoot so you can feel your best and love your photos for years to come.

Choose Outfits That Make You Feel Amazing

Select lingerie or outfits that flatter your body and reflect your style. Whether it’s lace, silk, or even an oversized shirt, comfort and confidence are key. Bring a few options so we can create different looks during your boudoir session.

Don’t Forget the Details

Accessories like jewelry, heels, or stockings can add variety and personality to your boudoir photos. Also, remember to avoid tight clothing before your shoot to avoid skin indentations.

Schedule Beauty Prep Wisely

If you plan to tan, please do so at least three days before your session to avoid streaks or burns. While tan lines can be sexy, keep in mind they can’t be removed in Photoshop.

Treat yourself to a fresh manicure and pedicure.

If you color your hair, be sure to touch up your roots before the shoot unless you’re intentionally going for an ombre look.

Remember, Photoshop isn’t a reliable hair removal tool, so plan any shaving, waxing, or trimming in advance. Shaving is best done the day of your shoot, while waxing should be scheduled 2-3 days beforehand.

Rest and Hydrate

Sleep and water are your secret beauty weapons! Try to get a good night’s sleep and drink plenty of water so your skin looks fresh and your eyes are bright for your boudoir photoshoot.

Trust Your Photographer

You don’t have to know how to pose—that’s my job! I’ll guide you through flattering poses and expressions so you feel confident every step of the way. Boudoir photography is about celebrating you, exactly as you are.

Bring Personal Items for Meaningful Photos

If you’d like, feel free to bring personal items such as your partner’s shirt or a meaningful piece of jewelry to add a unique and personal touch to your photos.

Relax and Have Fun

Most importantly, try to relax and enjoy yourself! Boudoir sessions are an empowering experience. Let go of nerves and focus on the fun and confidence this special day brings.
